SMARTAPOWERING BUSINESSES FOR LESS
Commercial gas

Business gas, without the burn.

Gas pricing is its own confusing world — gigajoules, daily supply, demand. We translate it, compare it, and find you a sharper rate from the retailer panel.

We're paid by the energy retailer when you switch — never by you.

Typical annual saving on a single-site business: $200–$1,500.

Why gas bills are weird

Three things almost every business owner gets confused about on gas.

  1. 1

    The units are different.

Gas isn't billed in kilowatt-hours like electricity. It's billed in gigajoules (GJ) or megajoules (MJ). One GJ is roughly the energy a small commercial kitchen uses in a few hours.

  2. 2

There are three charges, not one.

A gas bill has a usage rate (per GJ), a daily supply charge (fixed per day), and sometimes a demand charge for high-consumption sites. Each can be re-quoted separately.

  3. 3

    Same retailer, wildly different prices.

Gas pricing isn't standardised the way electricity is. A 15-minute conversation with the right retailer rep can move the price more on gas than on electricity. We do that conversation.

We do the conversation. You get the result.

Who needs a gas broker

If your business has a commercial kitchen, gas is usually 20–40% of your energy spend. That makes the savings on gas often bigger in absolute terms than savings on electricity, even though the unit volumes are smaller.

  • Restaurants and pubs with full à la carte kitchens
  • Bakeries, breweries, and food production sites
  • Hotels and accommodation with central hot water
  • Manufacturers with process heat — ovens, furnaces, dryers
  • Laundries and dry cleaners
  • Aged-care and hospital catering kitchens

Network coverage and LPG

SEQ natural gas distribution is operated by Australian Gas Networks (AGN). Reticulated gas covers most of Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, and Toowoomba urban areas.

If you're off the gas network, we can quote LPG suppliers or look at electrification options instead. Send the bill or call — Joe's done both.

Three places gas bills go wrong

  1. Default rates after contract expiry. Gas contracts often roll to default rates 15–30% above market. We re-quote at renewal.
  2. Wrong demand tier. Volume tiers in commercial gas tariffs are often set wrong at sign-up. We right-size.
  3. Bundle discount overstated. Some retailers offer "bundle gas + electricity" deals where the bundle discount disappears against quoting both separately. We test both.
Straight talk on how we get paid

We're paid by the energy retailer when you switch — never by you.

When we move your account to a new retailer, that retailer pays us a commission — partly upfront, partly as a trail while you're with them. Your rate is your rate. There's no markup, no broker fee on your invoice, no monthly subscription.

We disclose the commission existence on every quote. If you want to know the exact dollar amount on a deal, ask. We'll tell you.

This is why we win on transparency: we'd rather show you the maths than dress up the savings.
